DYEING WITH FRESH INDIGO

Come learn how to dye with fresh indigo leaves with local artisan Kirsten Gabrielsen.

In this hands-on workshop you will learn how to use the indigo plant (Persicaria tincoria) straight from the garden! This is a seasonal method of dyeing that can only be done in the summer months when the indigo plants are actively growing. First we will harvest leaves from fresh cut plants. Then participants will learn how to extract the dye using only indigo leaves, ice and salt. Each participant will get experience both preparing dye from the Indigo plants, and dying sample skeins of yarn.

This workshop is held through the Cornell Cooperative Extension Orange County.

Fee:
$30 per person, includes all materials to dye two sample skeins of yarn.

Registration closes
Friday, September 19th.  Registration is limited to the first 12 people.
